My “Narrative Echo” pieces imagine what might happen if a classic character lived in our world today. This one reimagines Anne of Green Gables arriving at Andover.

If Anne Shirley had arrived at Andover, she would have been amazed by the wide campus and the busy students rushing across the well-known intersection everyone talks about. She would probably have called it the most beautiful place she had ever seen, with its ivy-covered walls and shining chapel. At first, she might have felt nervous, worried that no one would understand her endless chatter or bright imagination. But soon she would make friends with her dorm mates, connect with her classmates, and entertain others with her stories. Anne would still make mistakes, perhaps bumping into someone in the cafeteria or starting an indignant argument, but her warmth would win people over. Just as she did at Green Gables, she would realize that Andover could become a true home because she stayed faithful to her authentic self.

Pearl’s Note:

Anne’s story reminds me that belonging doesn’t mean being perfect—it means being accepted as yourself. Where have you felt most like you could be your authentic self?
