Swimming has always existed in a strange space between discipline and escape for me. The echo of water against tile can feel like silence, even when surrounded by noise. In the hallway, I am one person. In the pool, I am another — both shaped by expectation, effort, and breath.

This piece reflects on how I navigate discipline, identity, and growth between academic life and competitive swimming. Writing it helped me think about how different generations experience pressure, commitment, and resilience — sometimes in surprisingly similar ways.
